BRIDPORT: Members of the town council’s environment and social wellbeing committee are concerned at the proposed reduction in the number of waste bins and possible reduction in the frequency of emptying them.

They are also questioning the proposal to remove dog bins, and use general litter bins instead.

Members were discussing the Dorset Waste Partner-ship’s consultation on street cleaning and litter bin policies at their meeting this week.

The proposals being discussed include providing coastal resorts with wheeled bins similar to the 240-litre bins for the Recycle for Dorset service, with a standard black colour scheme.

Litter bins will be removed from remote rural locations and lay-bys and in their place, new signs will be put up asking the public to take their litter home with them.

Members will be commenting on a survey to Bridport town clerk Bob Gillis, who in consultation with chairman Cllr Dave Rickard, will then respond to the consultation.
