TWO family events will be held at Lodmoor Country Park later this month.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes and their owners can take part in competitions from best child handler to fastest sausage eater.

The event takes place on September 20, when the annual pitch and putt challenge will also be held. Both events are organised by the Friends of Lodmoor Country Park.

Dinah Ellis, spokesperson for the group, said: “The 2012 Must Be Barking! show was a great success, but this year’s show has even more for people to enjoy as the Lodmoor Friends promote responsible dog ownership and considerate use of the park.” The dog show will be opened by Weymouth and Portland Borough Councillor Bill White at 12pm and judging will begin at 1pm.

The show is licensed with the Kennel Club as a Companion Dog Show, and will be held under Kennel Club regulations. It is open to all but animals must be vaccinated, and organisers ask that in season bitches should not attend.

As well as nine classes, the Dogs Trust will be providing free micro-chipping for dogs, and there will be a number of exhibitors from dog-related businesses and organisations, providing goods, services and information.TWO family events will be held at Lodmoor Country Park later this month.

Dinah added: “The Lodmoor Friends will be holding a raffle with lots of doggy prizes, and there will be a ‘Bag It and Bin It’ race for children, with prizes.”

The pitch and putt challenge will be hosted by Darren Melhuish at the Lodmoor pitch and putt Course and an award ceremony will take place at 4.30pm.

Friends of Lodmoor Country Park will hold an open meeting on Thursday and anyone with an interest in Lodmoor Country Park is welcome to attend.

The proceeds of the raffle will be donated to ‘Jessie’s Fund’, which provides music therapy for children in memory of the group’s secretary Fran Davies, who died last month.

It will be held at 7pm at the Lodmoor Inn.
