It may be September but that doesn’t mean the summer fun has to end. With the temperatures expected to stay in the 20s over the weekend, there’s plenty of things going on to choose from.

From fairs and festivals to a vintage garden party, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

1. Get on down to Waterfest

Waterfest Weymouth is taking place tomorrow and Sunday with a series of activities and events around Weymouth’s historic harbour.

Featuring sailing, underwater exploration and traditional maritime crafts, Waterfest is a celebration of Dorset’s maritime heritage and takes place on Weymouth harbourside.

There will also be a wide range of food, shanty music and a rolling programme of entertainment both onshore and afloat.

On Saturday visitors can step aboard Le Marite, Gipsy Moth IV, the Navy training vessels and the underwater explorer, “Coastal Guardian”.

On the water will be gig races from Weymouth Gig Rowing Club and Flyboarding demonstrations.

2. Be entertained at the Dorset County Show

At this year’s Dorset County Show, taking place at the Dorchester Showground, there are over 90 food stands offering all sorts of local produce, more than 2000 animals from sheep to ferrets and the biggest Homecraft marquee in the South West! Entertainment includes a jaw-dropping motorbike stunt show as well as horse and carriage driving. The grounds are open from 8.30am onwards. 3. Have a dance at Swanage Folk Festival

Join in with the folk festivities in Swanage this weekend where you can expect lots of Morris dancers, bright costumes and jingling bells. From 10.30am on Saturday morning, there are free concerts in the main marquee and assorted children’s activities and entertainment. In addition, all sorts of crafts are shown in a marquee and trade stalls offer a variety of fair trade and ethnic goods for sale at the ‘Festival Village’ on Sandpit Field above the seafront.

4. Travel back in time with the transport rally at Swanage Railway

Witness over 300 displays of vintage vehicles, motorcycles, tractors, and classic cars. Special Rover Tickets are on offer which permit all-day travel and entry for £15 adults and £10 children. Two day tickets are also available for £25 adults and £15 children. However, if this doesn’t take your fancy and you simply want a standard Swanage return railway ride allowing you entry into the rally, adult’s admission costs £4 and children go free.

 

5. Put your best headgear on and set off for Bridport’s Hat Festival.

 

There will be a mass picture of hat wearers at Bridport’s Bucky Doo Square on Saturday at 1pm. The quirky event runs until Sunday and there will even be a competition to find the best hatted dog.

6. Hear the Knicker Lady talk about fascinating drawers at Weymouth Pavilion tonight.

Rosemary Hawthorn will be bringing her show about social history to the town.

7. Give your taste buds a treat at Poole Thai Festival

Head to the Harbour Side of Baiter Park in Poole this weekend for a few Thai delights. Authentic thai cuisine, a traditional costume parade, an eating competition and a Miss Thailand of Great Britain contest are amongst some of the entertainment on offer. The gates open at 10am on Saturday and tickets cost £2.50 for adults and £1 for children. For more information, visit here.

8. Laugh your socks off with comic Mark Watson.

He will be performing at Weymouth Pavilion on Sunday night from 7.30pm.

9. Find out how to become an iPhone photo wizz.

Learn some easy tips and tricks at Chapelhay Community Playgarden on Sunday from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The event is free but donations are always welcome.

10. Sing along to the Outdoor Concert at Highcliffe Castle

Bring a picnic and a rug to this free outdoor concert for an afternoon of jazz and swing music. The event starts at 1pm on Sunday afternoon until 4pm. Whilst you’re there, why not make the most of the Three Counties Vintage and Classic Car Club motorcade on the Castle vista, from 11am until 4pm. 11. Enjoy Brownsea Island’s Sunday Scone Fest

If you fancy a sweet treat this weekend, then visit the Villano Cafe Garden on Brownsea Island from 10.30am for some freshly baked delights. 12. The b-side festival is back.

Running from today to September 14, the b-side contemporary arts festival takes an alternative view of Portland, exploring this island location and its rich geo-graphical, social and cultural histories.

Artists have been researching the area, collecting ideas and meeting Portland residents who have contributed to many of the new artworks being created See b-side.org.uk for a full programme of events.
