Portland Coast-guard received a 999 call expressing concern for a yacht drifting in the late afternoon, seemingly unattended off Charmouth.
Lyme Lifeboat and Lyme Regis Coastguard Rescue Officers investigated.
The Lifeboat crew found a person aboard with the vessel at anchor with nothing untoward. Safety advice was given that when a vessel is at anchor, the collision regulations require it to display a black ball in the rigging.
Meanwhile Portland Coastguard Operations room received a call from a worried mother on Tuesday who had received a text from her daughter saying their vessel was taking on water and they were diverting to Portland harbour.
The sailing yacht Diamonds are Forever was eventually contacted by VHF radio.
The crew reported the situation was under control and they were making progress.
