THE lifeboat was launched in Lyme Regis after two youngsters ignored advice and tried to get to Charmouth in an inflatable boat.

The boys’ mother reported that they did not return when expected and the volunteer crew launched the lifeboat, the Spirit of Loch Fyne, at 5.20pm yesterday, Tuesday, July 22.

The teenagers were found ashore on the rock armour near Church Cliff, east of the harbour, and were returned to safety.

Later in the day, Coastguard Rescue Officers from Lyme Regis received a report of a possible person stuck on the cliff between Charmouth and St Gabriels.

Investigations at just after 7pm revealed the object to be a white rock reflecting the sunlight against a grey background.
