ONE of just two polling stations in Lyme Regis could close due to the unsuitable capacity and access problems of St Michael’s Business Centre.
The news comes following a decision by West Dorset District Council, which organises elections.
A polling station has been situated in the community room at the centre for almost 15 years and is used by more than 1,600 people registered on the polling district register. Woodmead Halls is the site of the only other polling station in the town.
Lyme Regis Town Council owns the community room as part of their nine per cent ownership of the business – and councillors have been urged to help find a replacement for the St Michael’s polling station, with their views then being sent directly to the district council.
