Woman taken to hospital following crash on 'death trap' A35 junction
Updated 11:18am Thursday 17th July 2014 in News
A WOMAN has been taken to hospital following a three-car crash on the notorious A35 Hunters Lodge junction near Lyme Regis.
The crash took place shortly before 4.30pm yesterday, July 16, and involved three cars – a Volkswagen van, a Volkswagen saloon and a Volkswagen Golf.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said one woman suffered a neck injury as a result of the collision, but there are believed to be no serious injuries.
A South West Ambulance spokesman added: “We were alerted to a collision at 4.37pm on July 16, involving three vehicles.
“One person suffering from neck pain was taken by ambulance to Royal Devon and Exeter hospital in Exeter following the collision.
“Three other people were treated at the scene by paramedics.”
The notorious A35 junction, at the turning point with Lyme Road near the Hunters Lodge Inn, claimed the lives of two elderly holidaymakers on July 10 last year when their Corsa was in collision with a Renault van.
After the crash, David Parker, the owner of Sea Tree House, described the major road to Lyme Regis as a 'death trap'.
More than 100 people packed into a meeting in September with Neil Parish, MP for Honiton and Tiverton, and the Uplyme and Axminster Parish councils, which came after Mr Parish was contacted by local campaigner Joy Raymond.
Following the meeting, more than £50,000 of funding was secured to improve the safety of the junction, with the Highways Agency securing £47,000 for a revised junction scheme with construction starting before April 2015.
A further £10,000 was secured to conduct a road traffic study assessing traffic behaviour and speed.
Now, a public meeting held by the Highways Agency is due to be held at the end of July - with the agency’s plan detailing improvements to the junction, including all the considered proposals and the rationale for the conclusions reached.
