A MAN and a dog were rescued after their sailing boat was ‘overwhelmed’ by rough seas off the West Dorset coast.

The Lyme Regis RNLI Lifeboat was launched at 4pm this afternoon, Thursday, July 3, when the dinghy got into difficulties a mile offshore and around four miles east of West Bay.

Richard Horobin, of Lyme Regis RNLI, said: “The dinghy was reported to have been overwhelmed by rough seas.

“The man and his dog – both of whom were wearing lifejackets – were taken aboard the lifeboat and then to the safety of West Bay harbour.

“Two members of the lifeboat crew boarded the dinghy which was later towed into West Bay by the lifeboat.”
This was the 16th emergency call so far this year for the Lyme Regis volunteer crew.
