A CLASSIC motorcycle club event in Lyme Regis raised more than £1,500 for a charity supporting sufferers of brain injuries.

The Westland Classic Motorcycle Club formed in 1984 and opened its doors to all motorcycling enthusiasts with the aim of promoting motorcycling in the region.

The club’s popular Westland Coast to Coast event is open to motor bikes in production up to and including 1972 including veteran and vintage, solo and sidecar from Britain, Europe, Japan and USA.

Coast to Coast began in Lyme Regis on the morning of June 22 and the event attracted riders from all over the UK and Europe.

The mayors of each town and city along the route joined the event for the pre-launch speech in Lyme Regis, lunch in Wells and the final prize-giving.

Club chairman Henry Pinney added: “Mayor of Lyme, Sally Holman, had a tour round all the bikes and raised a flag to signal the start of the run.

“This year’s event has been absolutely marvelous and has raised roughly £1,600 so far for the Headway charity, a very worthy cause.

“Our number of entries has risen this year to a total of 184 entries.

The people of Lyme Regis, including the mayor and town councilors made us feel incredibly welcome and we can’t wait for next year.

“A massive thank you to everyone who helped and got involved.”

The sponsored charity is the Somerset branch of Headway, which offers care and advice to those who have suffered from brain injuries and their carers.
