EIGHT teams from schools in the local area took part in the High 5 Netball League at Budmouth on Tuesday evenings.

The league is open to any school in the Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester areas, and is run voluntarily by Weymouth Junior Netball Club’s chair Kelly Browne.

This year, Division One consisted of teams from Bincombe, Southill, St Andrew’s and St Augustine’s, and Division Two included teams from Chickerell, Radipole, St Nicholas & St Laurence, and Wyke Regis.

All games were played with excellent sportsmanship and fully supported by parents and helpers.

Division One was dominated by St Augustine’s who won all three of their games convincingly, scoring an impressive 50 goals in total throughout the competition. The runners-up were St Andrew’s who also had some great victories.

Division Two was far more closely contested, with Wyke Regis snatching top spot from Radipole after gaining a thrilling 4-3 victory against them.

Browne was impressed with the standard of the netball played, saying: “I was very pleased with the improvement made by players and teams within the league.

“It was evident that the teams had been training and that the overall profile of netball in the area has been raised.

“I would like to thank the schools for their support of the league, particularly support staff and parents, as I know that without these helpers the players would not be able to attend the fixtures.

“I would also like to thank Budmouth College for allowing us to use their excellent facilities.”
