A FLAGSHIP event in Lyme Regis will return to the town this May bank holiday weekend.

The Lyme Regis May Day Fete on Sunday, May 4 at Anning Road playing field will be opened by Lyme Regis mayor Cllr Sally Holman at 2pm, accompanied by mayoress Jane Whittington.

The popular event in the town calendar will showcase a variety of fundraising stalls from local organisations.

The young people’s organisations in Lyme will provide maypole dancing from St Michael’s School, gymnastics from Honiton Gymnastic Club, a Taekwondo demonstration and a display by the Lyme Regis Majorettes.

The May Day Fete is organised annually by the Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Committee.

Committee chairman Teresa Evemy said: “We always look forward to this event organised by Lyme people for Lyme people.

“We look forward to seeing a big crowd of people as there is a great programme of arena entertainment by the young people of Lyme Regis.

“We’re so lucky to have such talented youngsters prepared to support their town.”

On bank holiday Monday, May 5, there will be a special duck race at midday organised by the committee in support of the Lyme Regis Christmas Lights.

More than £1,000 was raised for various organisations last year.
