EAST Road in Bridport suffers air quality issues but not bad enough to take action, town councillors were told.
Town clerk Bob Gillis told members of the environment and social wellbeing committee the problems had never been thought severe enough by West Dorset District Council to warrant a management plan.
Coun Dave Rickard said the Ministry of Transport used to undertake regular spot checks of MoTs on lorries and that could help.
He added: “The easy way to stop areas being polluted are to stop the traffic that is polluting it. You have a downhill stretch so people are using their brakes to slow down and the air quality worsens.
“If you cut out the really bad vehicles, or the MoT testing does, that would help. Can we ask if there is any monitoring that goes on at this location?”
Coun Anne Rickard said it would be useful to get pollution levels checked before and after the new Broomhills recycling centre opens to see if there is any increase in pollution.
