DURING the past week several thefts from unattended motor vehicles in our area have been reported. Often items of value have been left on display in the targeted vehicles.
It is vital that wherever you park your vehicle and leave it unattended you must remove all valuable items.
We have been pro-active in the area with patrols targeting beauty spots. They have been conducting stop checks on suspicious persons seen around parked vehicles.
You can assist us by keeping your eyes peeled for people acting in a suspicious way around unattended vehicles.
If you see anyone behaving in way that concerns you, call us on 101 and give a description of what they are doing, why you are suspicious, where they are, what they look like and if they have a vehicle its colour type and registration mark. If you believe they have committed a crime or are about to do so, then call 999 immediately.
* The rear windscreen of a Hyundai i40 car was smashed by a thief to gain entry to the vehicle which had been left in the National Trust car park at Langdon Hill which is a popular spot for walkers.
A handbag that was left in the footwell of the vehicle was taken. Crime No 006926 refers.
* Almost three-quarters of a tank of diesel was stolen from a lorry parked outside the Corbin Industries premises within a secure compound.
This took place overnight on Thursday, February 20, while the main gates were unlocked and a night shift was operating within the building at the time.
Thieves left the fuel cap smashed on the ground and spilt a large amount of fuel at the scene. Crime 007330 is the reference number.
* A Land Rover Discovery parked overnight in the East Street car park in Bridport sustained a broken offside rear window when an unknown offender gained entry and caused damage to the ignition barrel. Crime 007318 refers.
* A bronze Toyota Carina has been stolen from the driveway of a residential property in Crock Lane at Bothenhampton, sometime between 1am and 10.45am on Sunday February 23. Crime number 007637 refers.
* Police are urging homeowners to be vigilant following a break-in to a property in Lower Walditch on Saturday evening, February 22.
The premises had been secured while the occupants were out for a short time.
Upon their arrival home they found a broken window and that their home had been subjected to an untidy search by the offender/s.
Personal possessions including a wallet and jewellery were stolen.
