A WEST Dorset-based student has been shortlisted for a major international design award after being inspired by Marshwood Vale.

Majeda Clarke, who lives in a cottage in Marshwood Vale with her husband, is studying a BA textile design course at the Cass School of Design in London.

She has now been shortlisted for the Bemz Design Award finals after submitting her textile designs in December, called ‘Patchwork Landscapes’, and will be up against competitors from Germany, France and Sweden.

Mrs Clarke said she had been inspired by the views of the landscapes at Marshwood Vale, after living there a number of years.

Mrs Clarke said: “I really enjoyed working on The Bemz Design Awards and I’m delighted to have been selected for the shortlist.

“Patchwork Landscapes was inspired by the beautiful landscape paintings of the Camden town artists from the early 1900s – and by Marshwood Vale, in West Dorset, an area I know well and love.”

The awards were launched in 2013 by online company, which is best known for creating slip-on covers for IKEA furniture.

“It is aimed at design students and a winner from each country will have their work introduced to the company’s designer collection.

The judging panel for the awards will comprise of Abigail Ahern, designer and author, Barbara Chandler, journalist and author, Abigail Edwards, interiors stylist and designer, and Will Taylor, freelance interiors journalist and author, A spokesman for the Bemz Design Award said: “All of the judges were extremely impressed with the level of the entries, and particularly with the three finalists.”
