Bridport’s community radio station wants your war stories.

To mark the centenary of the start of the First World War, Bridport Arts Centre’s Bridport FM will be running a week of special themed radio programmes.

Called Lest we Forget, the shows will form part of the Heritage Lottery-funded radio project.

Hosted by Philip Ringer, the nightly show will discuss many aspects of the Great War and include music, poetry and extracts from letters and diaries.

Now a call has gone out for local people to come forward with their personal stories.

The programme is now in the planning stages and is looking for studio guests who have stories to tell about a particular aspect of the war.

Their anecdotes and recollections could be the involvement of a family member, memorabilia, or stories that have been passed down through their family.

Presenter Philip Ringer said: “We are keen to talk to anyone with a story to tell about any aspect of World War 1.

“The programme has a very broad remit and we want to present a wide range of experiences from lots of different people to create a vivid picture for our listeners.”

Anyone who has a story to share on any aspect of the Great War and who would like to be involved, is asked to get in touch with Philip at philipringer@ aol.com or contact Kate Wilson at Bridport Arts Centre on 01308 427183.

Bridport FM will be on air from September 15 to 21 inclusive and Lest we Forget will be broadcast between 7pm and 8pm Monday to Friday that week.

Arts Centre is celebrating a £10,000 award from the Heritage Lottery Fund has given the 12 month project a £10,000 award.

Called Bridport FM – Mapping our Cultural Journey, it offers free training in all aspects of radio programme-making to volunteers and will culminate in the week of broadcasting.
