BRIDPORT police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery at a corner shop in the town last night.

Two men thought to be in their 40’s entered the Central Convenience Stores at the junction of East Street and Barrack Street at about 8.30pm.

One produced a knife and demanded goods.

The shop staff activated the alarm and ordered the men to leave. No-one was hurt.

A man was arrested in Bridport shortly afterwards.

Insp Mike Darby said: “This is a very unusual crime to happen in Bridport.

“We are still looking for one man in relation to this incident, but I do not believe there is any significant risk to other people or businesses.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police on 101.
