BRIDPORT’S community orchestra wants to welcome new members.

Following a successful concert at Bridport Town Hall in support of Barnardos, the West Dorset Community Orchestra is starting a new term on January 15.

The orchestra is keen to recruit new musicians to swell its ranks.

The orchestra is for all ages and plays mainly light classical and popular pieces.

Conductor Walter Brewster said: “The aim of the orchestra is to encourage local people of all abilities and ages who want to play in a fun environment on a weekly basis in the community.”

He added: “The emphasis is on musical enjoyment and we perform two concerts a year at local venues.

“Preparing for our concerts gives us a goal throughout each term and the concerts have been well supported by Bridport people.”

The orchestra meets for rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Christian Fellowship Hall in East Street, at the rear of the car park. For anyone wanting to try out for the orchestra, the first rehearsal is free. For more information see westdorsetmusic.org.uk, email walter@ westdorsetmusic.org.uk or call 07967 117012.
