THE presenter of our programme on October 11 was a member of the Weymouth Recorded Music Society. He brought us an enjoyable evening’s music.
There were four complete works, all concertos.
Basil Devenish-Mears started with a cello concerto by Leonardo Leo, a new name to most of us, he was born in 1694, a prolific composer credited with 60 operas, church music and concertos.
Next was Prokofiev’s 1st piano concerto performed by Kun Woo Paik, demanding to play but enjoyable to hear.
A flute concerto, one of many by Frederick the Great, was a tuneful and interesting work, he only wrote the flute parts, leaving his court organist Agricola to do the rest.
The final work was the great Beethoven Triple Concerto.
