West Dorset counts cost of storm St Jude
WEST Dorset residents, emergency services and utilities workers were this morning counting the cost of last night’s storm St Jude.
THE A35 at Raymond’s Hill was blocked this morning because of a fallen tree.
Further west another tree partially blocked the A35 carriageway near Shipton Gorge and a tree blocked the road between Bridport and Salway Ash.
The A356 in South Perrott was closed between the Picket Lane junction and the Chedington Lane junction, because of a fallen tree.
The B3157 coast road at Swyre was passable with care after a tree came down and the A35 at Chideock was partially blocked for a time.
Intermittent power cuts affected most of the area during the night.
Southern Electricity has had around 200 extra engineers in the area assessing the impact of the overnight gales.
Coastguards inshore forecast is for continued gale force winds today which will be reducing over the next 24 hours.
An Environment Agency flood warning was issued for River Char at Charmouth earlier this morning for The Street in Charmouth including Catherston Cottages, Robyns Nest, Neighbridge Cottage and Kingfishers.
