Body washes up on Charmouth beach
URGENT inquiries are under way to try to identify a man found dead on Charmouth beach.
Dorset Police received a call at around 5.10pm on Sunday, October 20, reporting a body washed up on the beach, 300 metres east of Charmouth sea front.
The body was found by a couple who were walking their dog along the beach, and they instantly alerted the police, who then informed the coastguard.
Officers arrived on scene with paramedics who confirmed the body was that of a deceased man aged in his thirties or forties.
It is thought that the man had been in the water for several days, had no ID on him and is estimated to be aged between 30 and 45.
The CID was informed and tests and further inquiries are being carried out to try to discover his identity.
Dorset Police Insp Mike Darby said that police would be making inquiries on behalf of the Dorset coroner.
“We do not know who this man is and various tests and inquiries will be carried out to try and establish his identity,” he said.
