Two more awards for Broadchurch
THE BROADCHURCH awards tally has grown with more big wins.
The ITV crime drama, which stars West Bay, took two top titles at the 2013 TV Choice awards this week.
At a glittering ceremony at London’s Dorchester Hotel, the series won the Best New Drama and star David Tennant was named Best Actor for his role as Det Insp Alec Hardy.
Bridport-based writer and executive producer Chris Chibnall received the award for the series, surrounded by cast members.
Afterwards he paid tribute to the viewers who voted.
“Thanks so much if you voted for Broadchurch in the awards,” he said.
“It means a lot to the whole team.”
Broadchurch actor Olivia Colman, who played Det Sgt Ellie Miller, was narrowly beaten in the Best Actress award by Miranda Hart for her role in Call the Midwife.
Broadchurch has been scooping up television awards since it was screened earlier this year and has also been nominated in five categories at the upcoming Crime Thriller Awards which will be shown live on ITV3.
The critically acclaimed ITV hit scooped the Best New Programme award at the Edinburgh International Televison Festival where show creator Chris Chibnall picked up the prestigious Industry Standout Talent of the Year accolade.
The TV Choice awards saw Coronation Street and EastEnders walk away with two awards apiece.
Doctor Who fought off competition from Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife and Waterloo Road to win Best Drama. The long-running sci-fi series was also honoured with the Outstanding Contribution Award as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in November.
