Two brilliant young musical talents, pianist Aglaia Graf and cellist Benjamin Gregor-Smith join forces for Concerts in the West’s Dorset programme.

The progamme features a wonderful selection of pieces by Debussy, Demenga, Shostakovich, Beethoven and Piazzolla, which will be performed by the two young musicians, both just 26 years of age.

Their confidence and level of interpretation belies their dates of birth. In short, this is a concert that promises to rivet its audience, particularly as Graf will also be playing one of her own compositions.

Catherine Hodgson, founder and director of Concerts in the West said: “I am delighted to be introducing these two talented young players to the west Country. They are both solo stars and yet they complement each other beautifully when they play together. Their performances have a special quality that I am sure will be remembered for quite some time.”

Aglaia Graf, who only began studying the piano at the age of 14, has received numerous glowing reviews. Her performances have earned the descriptions ‘to see and hear her play is quite simply a revelation’ and ‘a magical individual with great pianistic power of expression’.

Benjamin Gregor-Smith has been playing the cello since he was just seven years of age. He gained a First Class Honours degree in Music Performance, together with distinction in his Post Graduate Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where he studied under Hannah Roberts and Ralph Kirshbaum.

Aglaia Graf and Benjamin Gregor-Smith will be performing Debussy: Sonata for cello and piano in D minor, Thomas Demenga: EFEU for solo cello, Shostakovich: Sonata for cello and piano in D minor Op 40, Beethoven: Sonata in C major for cello and piano Op 102 No 1, Aglaia Graf: New work for solo piano and Piazzolla: Le Grand Tango.
