Support for struggling Axminster Carpets workers

The food bank appeal is launched at Axminster Tesco by community champion Kath Rabjohn and customer service manager James Sedgwick, backed by town mayor Andrew Moulfding and MP Neil Parish
THE community is rallying to help Axminster Carpets workers as the worst fears are confirmed.
It was announced yesterday that 300 staff would be made redundant as the firm has gone into administration.
A food bank appeal was launched by the town’s Tesco store this week to help struggling staff.
Workers and trade union representatives continued on their campaign trail at the weekend as they headed to Honiton to collect signatures.
Community Union’s general secretary Michael Leahy said they were pleased with the public support.
He said: “Your support has provided a great morale boost and is much appreciated by everyone involved at the company.”
East Devon MP Neil Parish and Axminster Mayor Andrew Moulding officially launched Tesco’s food bank appeal on Monday, pictured.
Customer service manager James Sedgwick said: “We are collecting non-perishable food and asking our customers to donate anything they can to help the cause.
“The response has been fantastic.
“We are doing our bit for the community, trying to help out as much as we can. We will be donating £50 worth of stock as well.”
The contributions will be added to the food bank run by Canned Sunshine at the Axminster Health and Wellbeing Centre.
