Call for Bridport volunteer hospital drivers
1:02pm Wednesday 6th February 2013 in News By Anne Bell
Dorset County Hospital
A call has gone out for volunteer drivers in the Bridport area to take cancer patients to hospital.
Bridport and District Good Neighbours Scheme, part of Pathways to Care, has received a grant to help cancer patients with transport to hospital for treatment.
The organisation needs more volunteer drivers willing to take people to Poole, Bournemouth, Dorchester, Exeter and other specialist hospitals, providing a back-up service and respite from driving for family, carers and friends.
Some cancer treatment can involve daily trips to Poole for several weeks.
Good Neighbours are working closely with The Living Tree, a self-help support group for people living with or beyond cancer, which meets weekly on Friday afternoons at the Friends Meeting House in South Street in Bridport.
Anyone who would like to volunteer, or who needs to use the service can contact Good Neighbours on 01308 420483 between 9am-1pm or call 01308 427851, e-mail jo@jovian.co.uk
