UPLYME & LYME REGIS 101-7 (18pts) beat DAWLISH & TEIGNMOUTH 97 (3pts) by three wickets.
A CLINICAL bowling display enabled Uplyme & Lyme Regis to cement a welcome victory in Devon League D Division East against embattled Dawlish & Teignmouth on Saturday.
The home side decimated the visitors' batting card with Steve Batey (3-22), skipper Ashley Caddy (3-37) and Adam Caddy (4-21) doing the business to limit Dawlish a derisory 97 all out in 35 overs.
Only Phil Norris, who was one quarter of the four-pronged attack, failed to claim a victim but with the destructive trio on song he was only required to send down five overs.
Batey started proceedings and accounted for the two openers with the cumulative score on 25, and the visitors were soon in dire straits as skipper Ashley Caddy, opening the bowling with Batey, dismissed the middle order cheaply and reduced Dawlish to 46-6.
Adam Caddy cleaned up the tail with four wickets in four overs, three of which were clean bowled, as Uplyme ruthlessly restricted their opponents to less than 100.
In reply the home side didn't have things entirely their own way as the small target, notoriously difficult to chase down, posed substantial problems.
Adam Caddy (21) got a start but couldn't go on when he was tempted into playing a false stroke and soon after Derek Wellman (4), Norris (1) and Ashley Caddy (4) followed him back to the pavil ion with Uplyme reeling at 49-5 and feeling the heat.
Jerry Sims serenely continued to forge a match-winning innings, but the support on offer was fleeting with Jedd Whittington (2) and Batey's run out for seven leaving the home side still 13 runs short of the target with only three wickets in the hutch.
However, Bruce Maltby came to the crease and just when it required a quickfire knock to settle the nerves, he delivered with an unbeaten 16 alongside Sims (25 not out) to guide them home.
Skipper Ashley Caddy was satisfied with his side's performance but is urging his players to show more consistency to aid their promotion push.
"It was a very good win for us, Steve was awe some bowling up front and Adam wrapped up the tail and it was good that we didn't let them get away from us," he said.
"There were definitely a couple of nervy moments batting and we made a bit of the run chase because with our line up it should have been easy, but we got there in the end.
"We've got to become more consistent though and look to get a lot more points if we want to grab that last promotion spot."
