Join MP for talks over Lidl
WEST Dorset MP Oliver Letwin is calling a public meeting over the controversial plans for a Lidl supermarket in Bridport.
Proposals to open the new store as part of a redevelopment of the Travis Perkins site off Sea Road North have split the town.
Now Mr Letwin wants people on both sides of the argument to air their views at a meeting in the town hall on Friday May 9 at 8pm, when it is hoped a representative of the German supermarket chain will also attend.
Meanwhile members of the St Andrews Road and District Residents Association are advising protesters to hold their fire.
Chairman Simon Williams says that until Lidl and Travis Perkins submit their planning application people should not write in to the district council to object.
He said: "The Association, in conjunction with other local residents' associations, will be opposing the proposed Lidl/Travis Perkins development. We are advised that we cannot make our objections known to the planners until a planning application is submitted and given its reference number. Any pre-objections will not be filed as no file exists.
"We will be conducting a letter writing campaign, but not at this time. In due course we will advise about the content of letters that we ask objectors to write, and the most effective way to oppose the plans and the best grounds in planning law on which to oppose them."

We discovered Lidl's about two years ago and I can understand that people who have not shopped there do not really understand just what value for money they give. Not only that, but the produce is fresh and great quality. We make a special trip to Weymouth about once a month and would be more than glad to have a store in Bridport

At the end of the day the decision is on Planning Law and existing Council Policies not individuals personal views on Lidl or any other shops
