TWO popular groups of musicians have been lined up to entertain in Weymouth this spring.
Firstly, Yetminster favourites The Yetties make their annual pilgrimage to St Edmund’s Church Hall in Lanehouse Rocks Road on Saturday, February 13.
The Yetties are one of England’s most popular folk groups. Since turning professional in 1967, their music and their enthusiasm has taken them far beyond the villages of Dorset and they have travelled extensively in Europe as well as the Far East, Africa and Canada.
Audience participation in a Yetties show is a very important ingredient and people do join in from the word go, whether they are nine or 90.
The concert starts at 7.30pm, and refreshments are available.
This performance always sells out so you are advised to buy tickets soon. For further details and bookings, call Isabel Adams on 01305 785811 or 01305 750836 or pop into the advance box office at St Edmund’s Church Hall on Saturday, February 6, from 10am until noon.
Please telephone and reserve tickets and collect them at the box office at the time of your choice.
The second musical event is the welcome return of Collegium Regale, the choral scholars of King’s College Cambridge.
Founded in the 15th Century, the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge is undoubtedly one of the world’s best known choral groups; every Christmas Eve millions of people worldwide tune into A Festival Of Nine Lessons And Carols.
The choristers of Collegium Regale are in demand across the world and the programme for these concerts reveals the breadth of their repertoire: sacred music from the 15th to the 20th Century, madrigals, folk-songs, part-songs and close harmony.
They will be in Weymouth on Thursday, April 15, in All Saints Church, Wyke Regis, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from 01305 750836 or from Rod and Isabel on 01305 785811, Betty and Mike on 01305 787970 or Brian and Margaret on 01305 774060. You are again advised to buy tickets early as this event is always a sell-out. Parking on the evening will be at All Saints School, a short walk away.
