FOR a perfect winter wander, why not take the family and travel to Brownsea Island next weekend to view its amazing winter wildlife?
A fantastic treat for wildlife lovers this winter, the Poole Harbour island will be open to visitors for the first time during the winter months.
You will have the island almost to yourself and will be able to enjoy stunning cliff-top views, explore woodland and heathland walks and escape the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Visitor services manager Emma Stokes explained: “We decided to open the island this winter to share our wonderful winter wildlife with local people.
“The island really is magical and at this time of year, with crisp morning frosts and stunning harbour views, it’s the perfect place to explore and relax.”
She added: “We hope visitors will make the most of seeing Brownsea.
“If they’re lucky they could see lots of waders, including avocet, black and bar-tailed godwit, grey plover, dunlin, redshank and greenshank.
“Brownsea is also home to the elusive red squirrel and you may even see a sika deer too.”
The National Trust island is opening exclusively on Sunday, February 7. Tickets are available for £15 from the Brownsea Island booking office. Call 01202 492161 for all information.
Tomorrow, Saturday, January 30, you can go along and learn to play drums from all over the world at Dorchester Arts.
Pick up tips on how to play instruments from Africa, North and South America, India and the Middle East.
All ages and abilities are catered for and you can bring you own drums or use ones supplied.
The two-hour session starts at 2.30pm and costs £5 plus concessions. For full details, call 01305 266926 or pop into the venue at School Lane, The Grove, Dorchester.
