ICONIC Scottish twins Craig and Charlie Reid, aka The Proclaimers, are on their way to Dorset this summer.

The duo have certainly managed to ‘go the distance’ in the music industry. It has been 31 years since the pair first emerged on the music scene.

Hugely popular around the world, they will be visiting the town’s Pavilion next month as part of their 47-date UK tour. (In Scotland they sold out 30,000 tickets in less than 20 minutes of going on sale).

Their most famous hit I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) was used to encourage Scots to learn life-saving CPR skills. The pair also inspired a musical, Sunshine on Leith which has its fourth run this year, with the biggest production to date.

The movie was the fifth highest grossing Independent UK film of 2013. Along the way The Proclaimers have had gold and platinum singles and albums in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Now they have recorded their 11th studio album at the Rockfield Studios in Wales with producer Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Roger Daltrey) at the helm. The album Angry Cyclist is due to be released on August 10.

A tour spokesman said: “Their enduring appeal across generations has carved a niche for themselves in the netherworld where pop, folk, new wave and punk collide.”

The Proclaimers are at Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on August 11. Ticket prices £34.25. To book tickets, visit bhlivetickets.co.uk or call the box office on 01202 451870.
