THREE soloists at the top of their game will perform at St Swithun's Church in Bridport on Sunday (15).

The trio of musicians will play two concertos.

They will perform music by Mozart, Haydn and J C Bach.

Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D was composed in 1783 for Antonin Kraft, a cellist in Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy’s orchestra.

It sounds more relaxed and lyrical than the previous C major concerto, but is technically harder for the soloist.

This should cause no problems for Arturo Serna, who is a professional cellist, teacher and conductor, very well known in this area as the director of several local orchestras and a regular performer of enormous talent. He will be leading the orchestra from the soloist’s chair.

Mozart’s Concerto for Flute & Harp is not often heard live but is a universally popular and charming piece, both technically and elegantly challenging for the soloists, full of sparkle.

Kirsty Whately is a professional early harpist, playing copies of harps that cross three centuries of European music. For her, the excitement of these bygone times lies in the beauty of the instruments themselves and in the exploratory, research-based practice of breathing new life into them in modern performance.

She has played live on BBC Radio 3, recorded CDs including with the Choir of King’s College London, and performed both in England and abroad.

Portuguese flautist Marta Gonçalves graduated with distinction in 2009 from the Royal College of Music's Masters of Music in Advanced Performance. Since 2005 she has regularly performed with orchestras and ensembles including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Florilegium, the London Handel Players, English Touring Opera and the Academy of Ancient Music. She has broadcast several times for BBC Radio 3 and has recorded for various labels including Hyperion and Chandos.
