Get outdoors for some top theatre, to honour service personnel or shop amidst sculptures. Here's our pick of the best activities this weekend.

*ARMED Forces Day will be held in Dorchester tomorrow. (7)

Veterans, cadets, serving personal and members of the public will be gathering at the Borough Gardens for a civic service starting at 1.45pm.

The service will then be followed by an afternoon of musical entertainment, provided by The Durnovaria Silver Band. There will also be a number of stalls in the Borough Gardens.

*ENTER a curious and wonderful musical place with the Moscow Drug Club tonight (6) at Dorchester Corn Exchange at 7.30pm.

The club music is where where 1930s Berlin Cabaret, Hot Club de France, Nuevo Tango and Gypsy Campfire meet, and where Django Reinhardt and Tom Waits are having an after-hours jam with local Tziganes. Contact Dorchester Arts for tickets.

*THE New Hardy Players will return with spectacular Georgian entertainment at Lulworth Cove tonight at 7.30pm and Bridehead, Littlebredy on Sunday at 2.30pm.

Bring along a picnic and enjoy Thomas Hardy's historical romance The Trumpet Major in a colourful new production directed by Tim Laycock with Penny Levick.

It will feature Harlequinade dancers from Dorchester Ballet directed by Lucy Bishop, newly composed music by Alastair Simpson, and county entertainments for all to enjoy. Go to hardyonline.org to book.

*A GOOD range of gardens will be open for Upwey Open Gardens in Weymouth tomorrow (7) and Sunday.

There will be some extra attractions: a sprinkling of craft stalls, a demonstration from local potters and a vintage vehicles display.

There will also be an outdoor café located in one of the gardens selling cream teas, coffees and cakes.

*A SUMMER Festival will be held at Sculpture by the Lakes at Pallington, near Dorchester on Sunday (8) from 10am to 4pm.

There will be lots of stalls including local artists, local craftsmen and local food producers all set in the picturesque surroundings of the sculpture park.

Visitors can wander around the park and do a spot of leisurely shopping. The Mousehole Woolery will be selling their beautiful wool sculptures inspired by the Dorset countryside, Horatio's Garden selling their range of garden and home accessories, Boutique in a Bus selling their wonderful array of fabulous clothing and accessories, Woodturner and Sculptor Darren Wheeler selling his unique stand alone wood sculptures , Shoreline Silver selling beautiful handmade jewellery, Temple Spa Skincare and Spa Products, Lyle Juice Bar and much much more. Entry to the park is £7.50 per person. No under 14s or dogs allowed.

*WYKE Regis Pre School is holding a 50th anniversary celebration at Wyke Gardens in Weymouth tomorrow (7) from 11am to 3pm.

This is a small non profit charity run pre school. The event is free to attend. It will include a bouncy castle donated by Seashells Soft Play, face painting, stalls, live entertainment, games and a raffle draw.

*ENJOY an entertaining evening of dance and song with Quay Theatre Arts' Infinity at Weymouth Pavilion tomorrow at 2pm and Saturday at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12. Contact the box office for tickets.

*ONE of the highlights on the music calendar in north Dorset returns this weekend.

The 14th UK Boogie Woogie Festival will be held in Sturminster Newton today, tomorrow and Sunday. Musicians from all over the world will be entertaining. Standing in the market place you will hear music somewhere near you. There will also be concerts with world class international performers, great dancers and singers.
