IF the recent weather we've been having has got you wanting to spread out that picnic rug and watch some outdoor theatre, then a date in Dorchester with the HandleBards could be just the thing.

The Handlebards, the world’s first cycling theatre company, will bring their production of Romeo and Juliet to Maumbury Rings, Dorchester, on Sunday, June 3 at 7pm.

The troupe began life in 2013 as a group of entrepreneurial friends from university with a shared passion for travelling theatre.

The cast consists of only four actors, with the fast-paced multi-rolling that’s therefore required to perform the plays giving The HandleBards their unique brand of irreverent comedy.

Nel Crouch , artistic director of the multi-award-winning Bucket Club, will direct Romeo and

Juliet.

To date, The HandleBards have pedalled more than 7,000 miles and performed to more than 70,000 people, across 12 countries and 3 continents.

The HandleBards cycle from venue to venue when they first create a new show, and are currently developing a nationwide tree-planting scheme to offset any carbon they produce

during international or revival tours.
