A SECOND major sculpture exhibition is being launched in a beautiful garden near Dorchester and will continue through the summer.

Sculptures will be on display at The Walled Garden in Moreton from May 26 to August 31.

Some 20 sculptors working in a variety of different media will show work at the garden – it’s an inspiring backdrop for art which aims to enhance and compliment the beauty of the planting and vistas.

The three acre landscaped garden has stream-fed ponds, large lawn spaces, wetland features and woodland.

This year the exhibition is bigger then ever with work by Kit Benwell, Brian Bishop, Isla Chaney, Dominic Clare, Kim Francis, Tony Heaton, Dave King, Andy Kirkby, John Maine RA, Carrie Mason, Ian Middleton, Brendon Murless, Rebecca Newnham, Simon Probyn, Katarina Rose, Ben Russell, Jane Shaw, Zoe Singleton, Elaine Wilson and David Worthington.

The exhibition is organised by curator Sandy Kirkby who has worked in Dorset galleries, museums and arts events for the last 20 years. Married to a sculptor and with a background in sculpture she saw potential in the Walled Garden to become a venue for artists to show contemporary work.

Sandy said: “Dorset has some incredibly talented contemporary artists but there is a real lack of venues that can show sculpture. I want Dorset to be as well known for its art as it is for its beautiful landscape and great produce.”

This is the second such exhibition in the gardens after Sandy first brought sculpture to the gardens two years ago

The gardens are used as a unique teaching environment for students with learning disabilities to build vital employment skills.

Steve White, managing director of Employ My Ability, said: "Sandy first bought sculpture to The Walled Garden two years ago – visitors loved seeing work by artists in the garden and we are eagerly anticipating this year’s exhibition, especially our students who help with the set up and running of the exhibition.

"The exquisite sculptures contrast with the tranquillity of our gardens and create a beautiful, unique experience, we’re excited to see what 2018 has to offer.’’
