A GROUP of eight musicians will take to the stage at Bridport Arts Centre to create their vision of modern reggae.

Backbeat Sound System will play a DJ set from Beat Safari on Saturday, May 5 at 8pm.

In a UK reggae scene that has long eschewed bands in favor of sound systems, Backbeat Soundsystem is a different beast. While many of their peers are slavish in their attempt to recreate an authentic Jamaican-leaning sound, Backbeat Soundsystem are not afraid to go in totally different directions, pulling in influences from all across the music spectrum.

Dean and Adjua effortlessly tear up the stage with lush harmonies, soaring melodies and natural born chemistry. This combined with a flawless horn section and undeniable groove leaves the audience mesmerised by their show stopping performance. Bringing an electronic flavour to the mix, with dub effects, sirens and live analog synthesiser, Backbeat Soundsystem remind the world that dub reggae is at the forefront of dance music culture.
