A NEW production based on the iconic film, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, is the next in the 2018 series of broadcasts from the National Theatre at local cinemas.

Tennessee Williams’ twentieth century masterpiece, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (15) enjoyed a strictly limited season in London’s West End in 2017 and is showing in cinemas on Thursday, February 22.

Following his smash hit production of Williams’ other classic play, A Streetcar Named Desire, Benedict Andrews’ thrilling revival (New York Times) of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, stars Sienna Miller alongside Jack O’Connell and Colm Meaney.

On a steamy night in Mississippi, a Southern family gather at their cotton plantation to celebrate Big Daddy’s birthday.

The scorching heat and humidity are almost as oppressive as the lies they tell. Brick and Maggie dance round the secrets and sexual tensions that threaten to destroy their marriage.

With the future of the family at stake, which version of the truth is real – and which will win out?

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was memorably filmed for the cinema in 1958 starring Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman and Burl Ives as Big Daddy.

It was nominated for six Oscars including best film.

*NT Live: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (15) can be seen on the big screen at Cineworld in Weymouth and the Odeon in Dorchester on Thursday, February 22 at 7pm. The screening at the Plaza in Dorchester is sold out.
