THE full power of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is to be unleashed in a concert featuring epic soundtracks from the silver screen.

Guest conductor Pete Harrison will head up the Heroes & Monsters event, at Lighthouse Poole on Saturday, February 17, which features music from films with monsters galore, including prehistoric dinosaurs, giant beasts from the jungle and supernatural creatures of the night.

Highlights include themes from Jaws, Harry Potter, Dracula, Tintin and Jurassic Park, all composed by John Williams, who boasts a career spanning six decades and has composed some of the most popular and recognisable film scores in cinematic history.

The Murder, the cinematic score written and composed by Bernard Herrmann for Alfred Hitchcock’s horror-thriller film Psycho, will also be played, alongside music from The Lord of the Rings film series, composed, orchestrated, conducted and produced by Howard Shore. These scores became the most successful of Shore’s career, earning him three Oscars, two Golden Globes and three Grammys.

Other music to be featured in the concert includes The Mummy, Silence of the Lambs, King Kong, Super 8, The Abyss and Pan’s Labyrinth.

Guest conductor Pete Harrison made a name for himself conducting a number of West End Shows, including Crazy for You, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Lautrec.
