YOUNGSTERS with an interest in musical theatre can have a go at a workshop session in Dorchester.

The musical workshops, for those aged between eight and 18, run every Wednesday evening from 5pm to 7pm.

They are held by Dorchester Youth Theatre (DYT) and no auditions or experience are necessary.

Musical Theatre@DYT runs from 5 to 7pm in term times at Manor Park School, Dorchester.

The successful Dorchester Youth Theatre has built up a strong reputation for high quality productions, and includes working with the National Theatre and professional touring companies.

MT@DYT will be focusing on acting through singing rather than the typical show tunes and there will be opportunities for public performances later in the year.!

The sessions are led by Jo Simons, artistic director of DYT and Alistair Dean, musical director of The Deans Academy.

Jo trained as a professional actor at the Bristol Old Vic, with many years’ experience of working both on stage and television, before joining Dorchester Youth Theatre in 2010.

Alastair, a former WOW member is now back in his home town after working in London theatre academies for 14 years, including the Italia Conti Academy. Many of Alastair’s pupils went on to star in West End productions including Matilda, Annie and Billy Elliott.

DYT also runs weekly drama sessions for young people aged from six to 19 in different age groups on Mondays and Thursdays, leading to performances during the year.

There are currently places available in the juniors and performance company sessions.
