MUSIC that will inject life and soul into Bridport will be heard this weekend.

Dr and the Medics are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year and will perform at Bridport Electric Palace on Saturday.

The band were created in 1982 by the Rev. Dr. Clive Thomas Jackson and, last year, they also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the song that they are best known for – their massive 1986 No.1 Spirit in the Sky, which sold more than 23 million copies worldwide and was number one in 19 countries.

Throughout their career they have always been recognised as a great live act, never more so than with the current line-up that delivers a unique and sensationally flamboyant show, packed full of “Medic’d up” 80’s hits along with a few Medic’s originals that are going down a storm at every show.

2015 saw the band return to the recording studio releasing their acclaimed version of Dead or Alive’s You Spin Me Round.

The band also ventured into dance music in 2015 with two releases, the 29th Anniversary dance remixes of Spirit in the Sky and also Lift Me Up both reaching No. 1 in several American dance charts including the Official USA Dance Chart.

However, the band have stayed true to their rock and pop roots and they have a new album currently being recorded and due for release in 2018 – some tracks off the album appear in the horror film Howling (15) , which features the Doctor in a small acting role.

Dr and the Medics last chart entry was Waterloo which they recorded with Roy Wood. In addition the band have recorded five albums, the latest being a live album featuring the current line up. This line up has been together since 1999 and has developed a unique and sensationally flamboyant live show. The current show features many hits from the 80s,

The band has a very busy year ahead, their busiest on the gig front for 25 years.
