A JAZZY duo will return to west Dorset.

Charlie + Jake, who hail from Bristol, will perform at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Sunday December 10.

This vocal and piano/bass duo, combine soulful originals with well-loved jazz standards. They mix powerful vocals with melodic improvisations they share stories of love, friendship and sense of place, and they will be performing as part of the Marine Theatre’s intimate Jazz in the Bar series.

Both studied at Royal Holloway, University of London; there Charlie trained as a classical singer but since then has been pursuing her passion for jazz, and has been singing with big bands for the past four years. Since graduating in 2015 she has been taught by Laurie Holloway, Becki Biggins, Ruth Royall, Victoria Klewin and Beth Rowley.

Jake studied creative sound design and is passionate about exploring new ways of incorporating found sounds and mixed soundscapes into their jazz compositions. Charlie + Jake’s latest project has involved collaborating with a group of Bristol poets, transforming their work into poetry-jazz fusions. The project is called Echoes and Edges and is testament to Charlie + Jake’s wide ranging musical interests.

They have been performing together for around 18 months and will be showcasing some original songs from their upcoming EP, scheduled for release in early 2018, as well as a selection of popular jazz classics.

After performing at the Lyme Regis Jazz and Blues Weekend this year, Charlie + Jake can’t wait to be back in Lyme - a place that has always been close to their hearts.
