SINGER Polly Josephine will be captivating listeners at the Marine Theatre’s Jazz Brunch on Sunday November 19.

Oxford-based Polly evokes the emotion and dynamism of the great blues and jazz singers and the euphoria of soul and gospel.

At the Marine Theatre in Lyme she will bring alive the sophisticated lyrics of the likes of Cole Porter as sung in the smooth jazz tones of Ella Fitzgerald, the intense atmosphere of Nina Simone and the sheer joy of Etta James and Aretha Franklin’s soul!

With a mixture of the best 1930s and 40s sultry jazz, uplifting 60s soul and moody blues, she transmits her own depth of feeling and excitement to the audience through the music she loves, with stylish piano accompaniment from Philip Clouts.

On hearing her sing, Scott Haynes of Music in Oxford was moved to write "Polly Josephine seriously impresses with her soulful voice and assured renditions of jazz standards. Polly transports the audience to the smoky, late night Jazz club with her rich, chocolaty voice and relaxed performance. She hits every note with ease and makes it all seem effortless, which is a mark of a great talent.”

Polly Josephine has been performing jazz, soul and blues for many years “Ever since I was a teenager I have been captivated by the emotion and depth of the great blues and jazz singers and the euphoria of soul and gospel.” says Polly. “Aretha is my heroine and I try to recreate those songs with the same dynamism and excitement for the audience that I feel when I listen to them”
