A ONE-WOMAN musical show which draws inspiration from the life of singer Nina Simone is headed to Bridport Arts Centre on Friday October 13 at 8pm.

Black Is The Color Of My Voice follows the successful jazz singer and civil rights activist seeking redemption after the untimely death of her father. She reflects on the journey that took her from a young piano prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.

Direct from sell-out performances in Shanghai, New York and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, writer and performer Apphia Campbell embarks on her debut UK tour starring as Nina Simone.

The show has won rave reviews from critics who note how her performance goes beyond impression in this heart breaking story.

Megan Dunford of Bridport Arts Centre said: “This is an entertaining and touching portrayal of a great musician, it’s going to be a great night."
