THOUSANDS of folk fans will be flocking to Poole Quay this weekend for a world class line of live music at the town's free one day festival.

Folk on the Quay on Saturday, June 24, part of Poole’s Wave 105 Summertime in the South events programme, starts at 10.30am with live music from 12noon until 9pm.

Developed by Poole Tourism, working with folk event music organisers Paul and Catherine Burke, the event includes a main stage at the roundabout on Poole Quay and the Landlubbers stage opposite the Poole Arms.

A festival of morris dancing will see performances throughout the day featuring styles from across the UK including Cotswold, Cheshire, Lancashire and Dorset, Scottish influenced rapper sword dancing plus Slovak and Middle Eastern belly dancing.

There’s also the chance to enjoy some of the UK’s finest step dancing originating from the mountain music of the USA at the Appalachian dance stage located outside Quay Amusements.

Paul Dredge, acting chair of the Poole Tourism Management Board, said: “Poole offers such a great location for events and it’s wonderful to see artists of this quality alongside our amazing home grown talent. And with fantastic live music in the sun, there’s no better way to enjoy the Quay.”

Headline act Marry Waterson will take centre stage courtesy of ECC records. Other confirmed acts include Baraka, a combination of musicians from Ghana, Senegal, Dominica, Trinidad and Southern Ireland, contemporary acoustic folk duo Gilmore and Roberts, BBC Radio 2 folk award nominees Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts, and one of the UK’s top young bluegrass and folk acts, The Carrivick Sisters.
