THERE is a rare opportunity to enjoy sunny intricate guitar lines and African rhythms in Evershot on Friday.

Rise Kagona, founder and lead guitarist of The Bhundu Boys has teamed up with Scottish musicians to bring Jit Jive music to rural Dorset.

Rise and the Jit Jive Band will play Evershot Village Hall on Friday June 16.

Rise quickly came to fame after travelling to the UK with his Bhundu Boys when he was in his early 20s. The Bhundu Boys went on to tour the world - one of the first African bands to achieve worldwide success.

Rise, though being the youngest in the band, was a wise band leader, creating a unit where all members could contribute creatively, and this, along with their huge talent contributed to the world-wide success of the band. After the band lost most of the members tragically in the late 90s, Rise has always looked forward, composing, arranging and practising, while always looking out for talented musicians he can collaborate with to perform his music.

In the Jit Jive Band, Andy joins Rise with his home-made marimba which he calls a “baladinda” - a cross between balafon and amadinda. He also adds shaker and Ugandan thumbpiano on other songs. Rise and Andy started playing as a duo in 2006 and since then have built up a strong group of players to perform as the Jit Jive Band.

Tickets cost £10 on the door or £8 in advance on 01935 83580.

There will be a fully licensed bar. Doors open at 8pm.
