There's entertainment and activities galore this weekend with a packed calendar of local events. Here's our Guide to what's happening.

*VENTURE into the woods with Hawkwind.

This massively influential group, whose latest album Into the Woods is out now, will be gracing the stage at Weymouth Pavilion tonight (12)

45 years since the legendary Greasy Truckers Party at the Roundhouse where Hawkwind recorded their No. 2 single Silver Machine single, which featured Motorhead's Lemmy on vocals, Hawkwind are back in 2017. Hawkwind were formed in 1969 by Dave Brock who still remains at the helm today. In 1970 the band played at the first ever Glastonbury Festival, released their eponymously titled debut album and created their own new music genre "Space Rock".

*SAMPLE sailing with a special open day at the Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy at Osprey Quay tomorrow (13) from 10am to 4pm.

There will be plenty of attractions for all the family to enjoy, plus the chance to take part in a famous cardboard boat race!

*YOU'VE seen the film and you've read the book, now enjoy Thomas Hardy's captivating novel Far From the Madding Crowd on the stage.

Celebrating their tenth anniversary, Hotbuckle Productions Theatre Co. brings Hardy’s romance to life with live music and their trademark ensemble style.

There will be two performances at the Corn Exchange, Dorchester – tomorrow at 8pm and Sunday at 2.30pm. Doors open half an hour before the performance. Tickets are available from Dorchester TIC or Dorchester Arts.

*FANS of classic film The Commitments should look no further than a trip to Weymouth Pavilion's Ocean Room tomorrow evening. (13)

The Stars From The Commitments featuring original Commitments cast members and musicians from the Bafta Winner, Golden Globe and Oscar® Nominated Sir Alan Park film & multimillion selling sound track.

The show consists of two hours of sizzling soul music performing all the hits: Mustang Sally, In The Midnight Hour, Chain Of Fools, Treat her Right, Try A Little Tenderness…. and more. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.

*HELP raise money for good causes and enjoy 27 acres of fabulous gardens with the Minterne Spring Fair at Minterne Gardens on Sunday from 11am to 4.30pm.

The fair is in aid of the RNLI and St Andrew's Church. Craft and food stalls, bouncy castle, plant stalls, cream teas, RNLI souvenirs, classic car display and Longbow demonstration by World Champion. Entry is £5 for adults and under 16s go free.

*ENJOY an afternoon performance by the Quangle Wangle choir at St Nicholas Church, Abbotsbury, between 3pm and 4pm on Sunday. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children. Call 01305 871532 .

*MARVEL at a carpet of blue on a bluebell walk at Toller Porcorum from Dorset Wildlife Trust's The Kingcombe Centre.

It starts at 11:30am prompt start and is £5 per walker. This is a 6 mile walk taking in Hooke Park, the Jubilee Trail and the Wessex Ridgeway. There will be great countryside views and swathes of bluebells along the way. Good terrain. 700 Foot of ascent. Call 07790 474478 for more information.

*FOR a night out with a difference, enjoy gypsy folk rock from seven-piece band Holy Moly & The Crackers at Buckland Newton Village Hall near Dorchester on Sunday from 7.30pm.

Their 2016 festival appearances included Glastonbury, Larmer Tree, Kendal Calling and Towersey, plus many more.

*ROUNDING off this season of Sunday Night Comedy at Weymouth Pavilion is Tom Allen.

Tom, star of Live At The Apollo, 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Channel 4’s Comedy Gala is one of the country's most in-demand comedians. His unique style of sharp, acerbic wit and camp, riotous storytelling has won over audiences all over the UK and around the world headlines an unmissable night of top stand-up from 7.30pm on Sunday.
