FORDE ABBEY
CHARD, SOMERSET
THIS stunning house has been sympathetically converted from its monastic origins in 1141 to its present day use as a family home.
It was used as a filming location for the recent adaptation of Far From the Madding Crowd and for the BBC's 2002 adaptation of Daniel Deronda starring Romola Garai.
Now is a good time to visit the gardens, home to the highest powered fountain in the country, for Forde Abbey's snowdrop weekends.
The 30 acres of award-winning gardens will be carpeted in a spectacular display of snowdrops, heralding the start of Spring. Weather pending, the camellias will be in full bloom on the Mount. There is a reduced winter admission rate of £5.
