OPERA Singer Laura Stephanie Sharley, a former All Saints School pupil from Weymouth, will be making her Madama Butterfly Debut tomorrow at the Musical Extravaganza at Weymouth Pavilion.

She will be performing the famous Puccini Aria Un bel di Vedremo as her grand finale in aid of raising money for the Royal British Legion.

The extravaganza, beginning at 7.30pm, will also feature the Dorset Police Male Voice Choir and Weymouth Concert Brass Band.

Laura, who holds a Bachelor of Music Performance with Honours, has recently graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), one of the World’s most prestigious music conservatories, where she was awarded a scholarship in 2010.

She specialized in vocal and opera and studied under the guidance of Sandra Dugdale, one of the most sought after coloratura soprano of her generation.

It will be a tremendous treat as Laura will be giving Weymouth her first performance of the famous aria before performing it in concert at one of the world’s oldest institutions of music - The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (English: National Academy of St Cecilia) in Rome.

Un Bel Dì Vedremo" ("One fine day we’ll see") is a soprano aria from the opera Madama Butterfly (1904) by Giacomo Puccini. It is sung by Cio-Cio San/Madama Butterfly, when she imagines and performs the return of her beloved soldier on a white ship, signalled by a thread of smoke on the far horizon – beautifully apt for the occasion and cause.

The Royal British Legion is a British charity providing financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants.

Laura said: "The cause is close to my heart as my own grandmother was a Wren stationed in Weymouth.

"I grew up attending the Weymouth Veterans Day Parade each and every year I would cheer on my grandmother proudly as she marched along the esplanade decorated with medals."

The concert is held at Weymouth Pavilion tomorrow and begins at 7pm. Call 01305 783225 for more information. Tickets are available from Weymouth Pavilion box office.
