BUILDING on the success of a sold-out and critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Carl Donnelly is set to bring his UK tour Bad Man Tings to Lighthouse, Poole.

Finding peace in a functioning relationship, career and plant-based diet, Carl is living up to 34 being statistically the happiest year of your life. But is being happy funny?

In his eighth show, Bad Man Tings, Carl has transitioned away from material on masculinity and depression which comprised his much lauded hour Jive Ass Honky last year.

Exploring what it is to be a white liberal today, he’ll look at societal components including Generation Z, health fads, Netflix documentaries and Kanye West.

An Edinburgh Fringe favourite, Carl’s style of comedy has landed him a host of awards including Best Newcomer at The Chortle Awards in 2007, Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year in the same year and Laughing Horse New Act of the Year in 2006. Known internationally as well as in the UK, he has performed at some of the biggest comedy festivals in the world and is also a regular face on TV with appearances on Mock The Week, Russell Howard’s Good News, Dave’s One Night Stand and Stand Up For The Week.

Whilst fellow comic and partner Chris Martin on the aptly named podcast Carl Donnelly and Chris Martin Comedy Podcast (included in the Guardian’s ‘top 10 comedy list’ with more than 50,000 followers) is in Los Angeles, Carl is on a mission to fill the void and presents fans with a unique opportunity to guest host on an episode in each town he is set to perform in.

Members of the public who believe they possess the wit and charisma and are up to the task are invited to Tweet @CarlDonnelly or visit carlandchrispodcast.com to take part.

n Carl Donnelly will be at Lighthouse, Poole on Saturday, March 4.

Tickets are available from lighthousepoole.co.uk or 01202 280000.
