SAXOPHONES, a rhythm section and vocals – and all swinging like crazy, that’s the aptly named Five Star Swing.

Get into the swing of things with the tribute band at Bridport Electric Palace on Thursday, December 15 with a soundtrack of songs such as Winter Wonderland, Santa Baby, White Christmas and Jingle Bells.

Beautiful tones are well rehearsed by the band’s leader, Chris Smith Jnr, who has the singular talent of playing the trumpet with his right hand and the piano with his left at the same time.

He is also very experienced writer of music, having learnt his trade with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Chris can also well-handle a vocal, as can his wife, lead alto Simone Smith, and tenor man Stephen Davies.

Band leader Chris’s compositions and arrangements are frequently played by Jazz FM, Capital Radio, the BBC Radio Big Band and at the Royal Variety Performance.

As a piano and trumpet player, Chris has appeared on BBC Breakfast, Top of the Pops and at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. He has toured extensively with the Herb Miller Orchestra (Glenn’s Brother), as well as performing at jazz festivals throughout the world.

Experienced in all types of functions and stage shows, under Chris’s direction Five Star Swing’s excellent vocalists and musicians create the vibrant sound of the Big Band era.

Style is added to every performance from an exciting repertoire, featuring songs from Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole and jazz favourites, through to modern day artists such as Jamie Cullum and Jools Holland.

Saxophonist and vocalist Simone has performed with the New Squadronaires.

The band appeals to age groups, with sell-out shows on their many theatre tours, recreating the exciting sound of the big band days.
