PORTLAND MUSEUM
217 WAKEHAM, PORTLAND
HOUSING an eclectic collection, Portland Museum was founded by Dr Marie Stopes in two early 17th century stone cottages.
Today, this quirky museum contains artefacts associated with the history and culture of the Island and Royal Manor of Portland and tells the story of local industry, the Sea, the Prisons and the People.
Find out more about one of the isle's greatest exports, Portland stone and discover more about the convicts, pirates and artists who have contributed to the varied character and landscape of Portland.
The museum is open from Sunday to Thursday from 10.30am to 4pm. Last entry is 3.30pm. Admission is £3.50 for adults.
