ROBIN Reliant owners are being sought to help steer an arts festival on Portland to success.
Artist Sadie Hennessey needs owners of the trusty three-wheeled motors to join her in a parade which will round off the b-side festival on September 18.
The charismatic cars will take part in a parade around the island to the strains of 80s pop music - in keeping with the theme of Sadie's art installation.
Former Weymouth Tech student Sadie tells the story of her torrid love affair with a Portland punk in the 1980s with her artwork Boombox.
Visitors to the b-side festival will be invited to sit in a Reliant Robin, which will be parked at Portland Bill, and listen to excerpts from Sadie's diary telling of her turbulent and surprisingly brief teen love affair with Portland-based Andi.
In keeping with the era, they will also be able to listen to new wave music in the vehicle.
Sadie said: "Andi’s sister had a Reliant Robin that we would sit in, in high wind, partly to stop it blowing over.
"As young punks we would sit in it, in high wind, listening to our boombox."
Sadie, who now lives in Kent, wrote her diary in 1982 while she was a student at Weymouth Tech (or rather whilst she was supposed to be, as her attendance record shows a somewhat dismal 42 per cent).
Anyone who wants to join in the parade, which leaves Chesil Beach Centre car part at 11.30am on Sunday, September 18, should contact Sadie on 07886 676 325 or email sadiehennessy@hotmail.com
The parade will end at Portland Bill. All makes and models are welcome.
